How to export Kindle highlights to Evernote

Import your Kindle highlights
Use the Clippings.io browser extension to pull in highlights from books bought on Amazon, or upload the My Clippings.txt file from your Kindle to include personal documents. Duplicates are removed automatically.

Connect Evernote
Open Settings, Integrations in Clippings.io, choose Evernote and sign in. Evernote asks you to allow Clippings.io to create and update notes; you can revoke that in your Evernote account at any time.

Export
Select the books or highlights you want, open the Export menu and pick Evernote. Clippings.io creates a Clippings.io notebook and writes one note per book, with every highlight and note in it.

- A Clippings.io notebook
- Clippings.io creates the notebook on the first export and reuses it afterwards. Move it into a stack or rename nothing else; it finds the notebook by name.
- A note per book with every highlight and note
- Each note is titled with the book and holds every highlight, and the notes you typed on your Kindle, as Evernote text. Prefer one long note for everything? Choose one document in the export options.
- Re-export without duplicates
- Export a book again and its note is replaced with the latest highlights. Books with nothing new are not touched, so repeat exports are fast.
- Automatic exports
- Turn on Auto Export and every import is pushed to Evernote as soon as it finishes, so the notebook is always current.

Kindle to Evernote questions
- Where do my Kindle highlights end up in Evernote?
- In a notebook called Clippings.io. Every book becomes one note in that notebook, titled with the book, with each highlight and note as text. Choose one document in the export options if you would rather have a single note for everything.
- What happens if I export the same book twice?
- The book's note is deleted and recreated with the latest highlights, so you never get duplicate notes or duplicate highlights. Anything you typed into that note in Evernote is lost with it, so keep your own notes in a separate note or in Clippings.io. Notes you attach to highlights in Clippings.io come across on every export.
- Can I choose the citation style and which notes are included?
- Yes. Open Show Advanced Export Options to pick highlights, notes, bookmarks or clippings, the sort order, and a citation style of Simple, Chicago, APA or MLA. Your choices are saved for Evernote and reused by Auto Export.
- Does Clippings.io tag my Evernote notes?
- No. Notes are created untagged, in the Clippings.io notebook only, and tags you add in Evernote survive until that book is exported again. Tag highlights in Clippings.io instead and they appear in the note text on every export.
- How long does an export to Evernote take?
- The first export of a large library can take a while because Evernote limits how many notes an app can create per hour; Clippings.io waits out the limit and carries on by itself. Later exports send only books with new highlights, so they finish in seconds. The export runs in the background and you can carry on using Clippings.io.
- Which Evernote accounts work?
- Free, Personal, Professional and Teams accounts on Evernote International, and 印象笔记 (Evernote China) accounts through their own connection. Evernote's own upload allowance still applies: a free account that has used its monthly quota will refuse new notes until it resets.
- Can I export to Evernote on the free plan?
- Yes. On the free plan each exported highlight is cut to its first 100 characters, which is enough to see how the export looks. The professional plan removes the limit, and your first export after upgrading resends everything in full.
